About Family Stores SATOH

The Family Stores SATOH are a local chain of grocery stores that has been supplying locals with local foods over the last 55 years, ever since its founding.
The grocery stores of SATOH, while carrying imported foods as many competitors in Japan do, emphatically deal in local products of Takayama, Gifu.

Since many families of Japan have their daily meals at home, many local families come to the SATOH stores daily for foods to serve for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Takayama, an area with heavy snowfall surrounded by forest, used be isolated from the major cities of Japan, with poor traffic connections to them.
Residents of Takayama, therefore, developed their own ways to make the most of the limited foods collected from their area’s fields and mountains as well as seafood sent in from the neighboring prefectures. This in turn gave Takayama people their own culinary sense.
By now, the unique culinary art developed by Takayama residents of ages appear often in Japanese media and enjoy appreciations by many.

Please remember that countless local customers come to us, the SATOH stores, everyday --- this means our stores are where you can find genuine foods of Takayama and its culinary art.
